Abstract

The implementation of the green hydrogen sector is one of the most important and complex challenges facing the energy sector in Algeria, in terms of the economic, financial, technological, and environmental challenges related to the development of low-carbon technologies.

       This study aims to shed light on the reality of the green hydrogen sector in Algeria, while addressing the government's drive to integrate green hydrogen as a bet towards diversifying the country's energy mix. This drive stems from the government's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across various sectors. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach, describing the study variables related to the infrastructure of the green hydrogen sector and analyzing the status of the electricity, gas, and renewable energy sectors in the country. It was concluded that global demand for hydrogen is constantly increasing, while locally, green hydrogen manufacturing technology is still nascent and requires substantial investment and support to deploy it. It also requires a thorough understanding of the hydrogen market structure and its alignment with the country's 2050 energy strategy.
