Authorship and Contribution

The Cadernos de Pós-Graduação em Direito Político e Econômico / Postgraduate Notebooks in Political and Economic Law, published by the Centro de Estudos Acadêmicos Press [Center for Academic Studies Press], adopts a strict and transparent policy regarding authorship and scholarly contribution. Authorship must reflect meaningful intellectual participation in the conception, development, and finalization of the academic work.

  1. Authorship Criteria

In accordance with international standards and national academic guidelines, only those who meet all the following criteria may be listed as authors:

  • Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data;
  • Active participation in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  • Final approval of the version to be published;
  • Accountability for all aspects of the work, ensuring its accuracy and integrity.

Contributors who do not meet all four criteria—such as individuals providing only technical support, language revision, or general supervision—should be acknowledged in the appropriate section but not listed as authors.

  1. Author Order and Contributions

The order of authorship must reflect the relative contribution of each individual to the manuscript. All listed authors must agree on the order and share responsibility for the integrity of the final work.

The journal encourages the inclusion of a Contributor Statement specifying the role of each author (e.g., conceptualization, methodology, writing, data analysis, supervision). This can be added as a footnote or in a separate section before the references.

  1. Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission or acceptance must be:

  • Justified in writing;
  • Approved by all authors (including the one being added or removed);
  • Subject to review and approval by the editorial board.

Changes will not be permitted after the article has been formally published.

  1. Group Authorship and Institutional Papers

In cases of group-authored papers (e.g., research centers, legal clinics, institutional projects), one or more individuals must be clearly identified as the corresponding authors responsible for the manuscript. The group must collectively meet the authorship criteria.

  1. Misconduct Related to Authorship

Improper authorship practices—such as honorary (gift) authorship, ghost authorship, or omission of eligible contributors—are considered serious breaches of academic ethics. If identified, such misconduct may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript;
  • Retraction of the published article;
  • Notification to the relevant academic or institutional authorities.

Authors are expected to resolve authorship matters prior to submission. Disputes that arise after submission or publication will be handled in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines and the journal’s ethical policies.
