The Impact of Globalization on Intercultural Communication

Abstract

This article examines the impact of globalization on intercultural communication by demonstrating its role in fostering closer relations among peoples through advances in communication and transportation, which have facilitated the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and customs and promoted dialogue and understanding among different cultures. The study also discusses the negative aspects of globalization, including the dominance of some cultures over others and the resulting threats to cultural identity and civilizational diversity. It concludes that globalization represents an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and cultural openness when properly employed, provided that national identity and cultural distinctiveness are preserved and that a balance is maintained between openness to the world and the protection of each society’s values and cultural heritage.
